Coming to theatres this week, there are plenty of new releases and old classics for all fans of cinema. The Accountant 2 is a thrilling action sequel starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal. The Friend stars Bill Murray and Naomi Watts in a sweet, dramatic comedy. Until Dawn adapts the popular horror video game into a brand new film, and coming Thursday, Marvel Studios’ next big release, Thunderbolts* will be playing throughout Preston.

In addition, this week marks a special occasion as Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith celebrates its 20th Anniversary with numerous screenings in every theater around the city all week.

In addition to new releases, these are the unique listings for Preston’s local cinemas from Friday, the 25th of April to Thursday, the 1st of May.

Cinderella

The live-action Disney Celebration continues at The Arc Cinema with Cinderella. The film is also marking its 10th anniversary this year, making the addition to the lineup a very special one. The film stars Lily James as Cinderella, and Richard Madden as her charming prince, but Cate Blanchett’s wicked stepmother will do anything to keep them apart.

Conclave

Of the eight Academy Award categories for which Conclave was nominated, it managed to win only one for Best Adapted Screenplay. Starring Ralph Fiennes and a slate of stunning actors, the movie has proven very popular with audiences. Now, The Arc Cinema continues to feature the film prominently alongside other listings.

Flow won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film over competitive entries like Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, from Preston’s own Nick Park. The film features a beautiful animated style and is free from any human speech. Instead, it features a wide variety of real animal sounds. An engaging watch for the entire family to enjoy.

Goldbeak

Goldbeak came out in China in 2021, but with the rise in popularity of animated films from that market, Goldbeak has been redubbed and adapted for a global market. A film about a young eagle raised by chickens who sets out to find where he belongs. A solid choice for viewers with young children.

Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Speaking of Wallace & Gromit, another entry in the series is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The film, made by Preston’s own Nick Park, sees the popular characters return in the beautiful, charming, stop-motion series of stories. The film is featured prominently in The Arc and Vue this week.

Six The Musical is a comedy stage show that depicts a modern-day retelling of Henry VIII tragic relationship with his six wives. The film sees each woman take their turn to recount their experience. Despite releasing a few weeks ago, Odeon and Vue are still giving the event screening a prime position in their lineup, with The Flower Bowl hosting one additional showing.

The popular playset for children that began trading in 1985 now comes to the big screen. The film perfectly captures the theme of the toys and delivers a happy family fairytale centred on anthropomorphised animals. This one is more focused on younger audiences, so keep that in mind going in.

Pride & Prejudice

Pride & Prejudice adapts the classic Jane Austen novel of the same name. This film, starring Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy, came out in 2005. Now, 20 years on, the movie returns to the big screen in Odeon and Vue.

This special event screening features a spectacular concert from Pink Floyd originally performed in 1972. However, the show has been remastered and edited in 4K. Odeon and The Arc are both hosting a very special showing of the event on Sunday.

Maria is an independent film that has received a very limited release across the UK. The movie, which stars Angelina Jolie, examines the life of famous opera singer Maria Callas in the week before she died. The movie was been nominated for Best Cinematography at the 97th Academy Awards.

Mr. Burton

Mr. Burton is a British biographical drama about the life of the popular actor, Richard Burton. The film explores the early life of the actor. The film will be available exclusively in The Flower Bowl throughout the week.

September 5

Tuesday

September 5 received a limited release here in Preston early in February, but now it’s returning as part of Odeon’s Silver Screen offering for seniors. The film follows the events of the Munich massacre of 1972, where an American sports broadcasting channel was involved in covering a developing hostage crisis at the Olympics. The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, though it lost out to Anora.

Wind, Tide & Oar

Wednesday

Huw Wahl is a British filmmaker who recently created a documentary about various groups who sail without engines. The documentary film is informative, engaging, and explores a way of life that is integral for some individuals who continue to embrace a very physical connection to the water and wind. After touring several film festivals, the movie will now have a limited release in the Odeon.

Bonnie & Clyde: The Musical

The world’s most infamous crime couple, Bonnie & Clyde have had their story told many times down the years. However, this film adapts the story into a musical, retelling the story like never before. This special event screening will appear in both the Odeon and Vue on Thursday.
