Charles Hadcock, the Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire has shown his appreciation to ward 16 staff at Royal Preston Hospital for their recent care of him.

Rushed to the Fulwood hospital in October, the Deputy Lieutenant spent 18 days in the trauma ward after breaking his tibia, fibula and ankle, during a fall.

After a four-and-a-half-hour surgery and not being able to move for seven days, Mr Hadcock said he was looked after “wonderfully well” by the local NHS staff.

He said: “The love and kindness that you get from the nurses and from all the staff, including those that make the tea and the biscuits – and I had numerous biscuits! – it just was superb.”

While his injury has been described as life-changing, he also thanked the Specialist Mobility and Rehabilitation Centre run by the trust, in particular.

He added: “I’ve been a patient there since I moved to Lancashire 25 years ago.

“Without them, I wouldn’t be walking. They have really helped me tremendously.”

He also mentioned the importance of the lead chaplain, Reverend Martin Mcdonald visiting him and explained how it can give strength to patients who need it.

Ward Clerk, Beverly Hitchcott, said: “It was really good of him to come back to the ward and thank us for the work we did, and it was great to see him in normal circumstances, up on his feet again!

“He was a lovely patient, a really nice man.”
