A Penwortham car firm is hoping to deliver a woman’s final wish by giving £15,000 to St Catherine’s Hospice.
The garage has been tasked with selling an electric Mini which belonged to Elaine Read when she tragically lost her life to cancer.
In her will, Elaine stated she wanted the car to be sold and the funds to be donated to the Lostock Hall hospice, with a small portion also going to St Michael’s church in Much Hoole.

Elaine had remained close with some of her school friends from Penwortham Priory High and one tasked another former pupil – Russell Clayton – with carrying out the task.
Russell has worked at Penwortham Garage for three decades and said he was happy to help out however he could. While it was originally suggested the garage could buy the car to sell it on, he felt uncomfortable making any money from the deal and instead is displaying and advertising the Mini for the proceeds to go directly to the charity.
The car is listed for £15,000 and Russell said the excellent condition of the car means it is probably worth a little more.
“It’s immaculate,” he told Blog Preston. “It didn’t even need cleaning when it came in.”
The car, a 2021 Mini Cooper S, is listed for sale on Autotrader as well as the garage’s own website. Russell said a video he shared to his own Facebook has received 9,000 views, around 100 times what is typical.
He is now hoping the interest can turn into a sale in order to benefit the charity and carry out Elaine’s wish.
