An Ashton-on-Ribble man has been jailed after polo shirts were taken from a city centre store.

Preston Police were called to Next in Fishergate on Sunday 27 April.

A 39-year-old man was arrested and charged with the theft of polo shorts from the shop.

Daniel Newton of Tulketh Road, Ashton-on-Ribble, appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Monday 28 April.

He pleaded guilty to theft and was sentenced to six weeks in prison.

Inspector Dave Byrne of Preston’s neighbourhood policing team said: “This is another great result which shows how seriously we’re tackling shoplifting.

“Hopefully, it gives the community and businesses of Preston some reassurance that we will not tolerate shoplifting and other criminal activity in our town.”
