A record number of walkers took part in Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s Walk in the Dark on Saturday night (26 April)
600 children, adults and dogs – the highest number in the 17-year history of the event – set out, with most in costume, from Chorley and South Ribble Hospital late last week.
The 600 participants followed the A6 just over 11 miles to Fulwood’s Royal Preston Hospital, to be greeted with a supper.

Dan Hill, chief officer of Rosemere Cancer Foundation and head of charities for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “A fab night with an amazing turn-out and atmosphere.
“We can’t thank all our walkers, marshals and sponsors enough for making this year’s Walk in the Dark the best.
“We won’t know the total raised for a few weeks yet as several walkers had set up online fundraising pages and so have sponsorship to collect but all the signs are looking good.”
Sponsored by Preston-based construction Eric Wright Group Limited, with support from bus and coach services, Preston Smith Hire depot, Garstang’s Toilet 2 Go, and Preston City Council, which provided toilet facilities.

The event started with a drumming band setting the participants off, and halfway at the refreshment stop.
Penwortham Zumba instructor Jaime Kirby also donated her time to help warm up the walkers.
