A woman from Preston has published a book about her life with a chronic illness.

Catherine Vandome described herself as a “whirlwind of energy” before being diagnosed with ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia at the age of 39.

Before being diagnosed in 2014, she ran her own stage school, worked as a stand-up comedian, performed as a Jessie J tribute act and was the lead singer with The Ronnie Scott Big Band Orchestra.

After battling the health condition for over a decade now, Catherine decided to write a book about her story.

‘The Truth About ME’ is a biography for readers who want to learn about the condition in a light-hearted and humorous way.

Catherine said: “This book explores my exciting life journey, working on stage with undiagnosed ME, gradually progressing over time in severity, and it explains scientifically why ME happens and my own personal journey to recovery.”

It also describes Catherine’s journey to meeting neuro-osteopath Dr Raymond Perrin who introduced her to the Perrin Technique.

The Perrin Technique, which Catherine described as “life-saving” involves the massage of soft tissues in the head, neck, back and chest to unblock the lymphatic system.

Throughout her life, Catherine has been campaigning, alongside former MP Ben Wallace, to help Dr Perrin’s technique become recognised which would help GPs to diagnose the condition.

As well as publishing her book in aid of this, Catherine also hosts a weekly podcast exploring the fields of entertainment and health.

Special guests include Steve Royle, finalist of Britains Got Talent and stand-up comedian, Margaret Preece, international opera singer and voice of Carlotta in the Phantom Of The Opera movie and Mark Trevorrow – Bob Downe.
