Hundreds of solar panels are to be installed on the roof of Preston North End’s stadium in a bid to cut bills and carbon emissions.

A total of 780 solar modules are planned to be installed on the west, east, south stand roofs at Deepdale, according to a planning application submitted to Preston City Council.

The application states that the change would result in a saving of around 278,000kWh each year, the equivalent of the typical average use of 100 homes.

It adds that the “installation will help to reduce the carbon footprint by approximate 57 tons per year”, will be “done to the highest standard” and that the panels will not be visible from ground level.

Buckshaw Village-based company Saber Renewable Energy submitted the application on behalf of the club. A decision will be made in due course by Preston City Council.

Blog Preston approached Preston North End for comment on the plans but received no response by the time of publication.
