Most key routes around Preston and South Ribble are experiencing significant delays after the M6 northbound did not open for the peak travel time.

The M6 northbound has now been closed between junction 31 and 32 for around 18 hours after a HGV went through the central reservation, spilling diesel across the carriageway and necessitating a full resurface.

That resurfacing work was completed overnight but the plan to reopen the M6 partially this morning (11 March) has not come to fruition with work to repair the barriers on the central reservation ongoing.

The M6 is backed up as far back as junction 27 with the A6 Garstang Road seeing significant delays heading north as traffic diverts off at junction 31 and rejoins at 32. There are also significant delays heading north on the M61.

Key routes around Preston, including London Road, London Way, Higher Walton Road, Liverpool Road, Penwortham Way, Blackpool Road, Longridge Road, Strand Road, are experiencing significant delays.

Issues on London Road are exacerbated by a crash that has occurred amidst the traffic.

National Highways: North West said they are working towards reopening lanes as soon as possible.
