A school in Penwortham is to celebrate their 70th birthday this month.
On Friday (28 March), Penwortham Girls’ High School is marking its 70th Founders’ Day.
The school opened in 1955 and has since had a ‘long and proud’ history.

It was officially opened by Edward Stanley, the 18th Earl of Derby, and its first headteacher, Mrs Waddington, an Oxford graduate and specialist in languages, welcomed the first cohort of 85 students.
To celebrate the anniversary, students from years 7 and 8 will take part in activities reflecting the school’s history.
The day will begin with an assembly led by the headteacher, Mrs Hall, followed by a talk from Mr Herbert about the school’s origins. Ms Wootton, the school’s first head girl, sharing her personal memories at the school.

Governors, led by Chair Mrs Russell-Hayes, will also be in attendance, recognising the significance of the day.
