Plans to modernise Runshaw College by building new laboratories look set to be approved.
College bosses want to knock down one of the Dalehead buildings to make way for a larger and improved facility. After knocking down the single storey building, they plan to build a two-storey facility featuring labs and classrooms.
The plans also include increasing the number of parking spaces and are due to go before South Ribble Borough Council’s planning committee on Thursday evening. A report prepared by a planning officer recommends that councillors approve the application.

If approved, the new building, which is to be named Windermere Building, will accommodate two year-groups of Post-16 and T-level course students and 28 teaching staff. There are no proposed increases in student or staff numbers with the new building but instead an aim to improve the facilities on offer.
Included in the ground floor of the proposed building are five science labs, a staff room, preparation rooms and a social learning area. The first floor includes another six labs, an ICT classroom and a meeting room.
The report states: “It is considered that the proposal would support the modernisation and improvement to Runshaw College’s facilities for the benefit of its students and staff, without leading to any significant harm to the area or neighbouring amenity.
“The proposed development accords with the relevant planning policies and there are no objections to the scheme from statutory consultees. It is therefore recommended that planning permission be granted.”
The college, which is rated Outstanding by Ofsted, educates around 5,000 students each year and has had investment of more than £20m to upgrade its resources in recent years.
