The M6 northbound is moving after being closed for around 18 hours, causing widespread delays across Preston.

The M6 northbound was closed between junction 31 and 32 from around 1pm after a HGV crashed into the central reservation. This resulted in a diesel spillage that required a full overnight resurfacing and then barrier repairs.

The M6 reopened three lanes from around 9am this morning (11 March) though this meant that the goal of reopening lanes in time for peak travel time was missed.

All key routes around Preston saw high volumes of traffic yesterday evening and this morning as the city drew to a familiar standstill.

Blog Preston received reports that people were stuck at the scene of the incident overnight and asked National Highways: North West about trapped traffic between junction 31 and the incident itself. National Highways: North West said that vehicles were able to get past the incident via an open lane of traffic.

Blog Preston understands that police do not believe anyone was at fault for the incident itself.

Routes across Preston continue to be extremely busy due to the earlier work.
