Firefighters have tackled a car fire on the hard shoulder of the M6 just north of Preston.

A lane was closed just before the slip road for the Junction 32 turn off on the M6 southbound.

Motorists were slowed as emergency services worked to bring the fire under control.

Blog Preston understands no one was hurt in the car fire which took place shortly after 2.40pm on Saturday (15 March).

It caused delays back towards Junction 34 as a lane was closed off before the M55 junction.

As of 4.45pm all delays have cleared on the M6 and both northbound and southbound are flowing freely.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Four fire engines from Lancaster, Fulwood and Leyland attended a vehicle fire on the M6 southbound between Junction 33 and 32.

“Crews used breathing apparatus and used one hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. Crews remain in attendance.”
