Blog Preston understands no one was hurt in the car fire which took place shortly after 2.40pm on Saturday (15 March).
It caused delays back towards Junction 34 as a lane was closed off before the M55 junction.
As of 4.45pm all delays have cleared on the M6 and both northbound and southbound are flowing freely.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Four fire engines from Lancaster, Fulwood and Leyland attended a vehicle fire on the M6 southbound between Junction 33 and 32.
“Crews used breathing apparatus and used one hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. Crews remain in attendance.”
