More than a hundred households reported no water or a lack of water pressure as a result – with the burst water pipe understood to have been caused by nearby roadworks.
A spokesperson for United Utilities told Blog Preston: “On Wednesday 19 March, United Utilities responded to calls of a burst pipe on Birchwood Avenue, Hutton in the PR4 postcode, and some of our customers experienced no water or poor water pressure as a result.
“Engineers arrived on scene to fix the problem, but temporary measures were required to keep water flowing through customer taps while we repaired the burst. This included providing water from a different area, and six of our water tankers remained in the Hutton/Longton area to pump additional supply into the network overnight.
“The cause was determined to be from third party damage, which has now been rectified. Thank you for your patience while we fixed the issue.”
