A flooded street in Hutton is draining away as engineers have fixed a burst pipe.

Residents in Birchwood Avenue area saw water running high down the road for the past 24-hours.

United Utilities say the burst pipe has been fixed during the course of Thursday (20 March).

More than a hundred households reported no water or a lack of water pressure as a result – with the burst water pipe understood to have been caused by nearby roadworks.

A spokesperson for United Utilities told Blog Preston: “On Wednesday 19 March, United Utilities responded to calls of a burst pipe on Birchwood Avenue, Hutton in the PR4 postcode, and some of our customers experienced no water or poor water pressure as a result.

“Engineers arrived on scene to fix the problem, but temporary measures were required to keep water flowing through customer taps while we repaired the burst. This included providing water from a different area, and six of our water tankers remained in the Hutton/Longton area to pump additional supply into the network overnight.

“The cause was determined to be from third party damage, which has now been rectified. Thank you for your patience while we fixed the issue.”
