Former professional footballer Paul Gascoigne best known as “Gazza” was recently in Lostock Hall to try out the Preston delicacy parched pea.
The HotPotatoTram serve spuds and parched peas at Preston North End games and other events in the area and are a family run business.
Earlier this week they were at Lostock Hall Conservative Club serving customers at an afternoon with Gazza event as part of his tour.

After the event, Gazza came to try a famous parched pea.
In a video posted by the tram Gazza said the parched peas were “lovely”.
Tony Nelson owner of the tram said: “It’s a true Preston tradition. Parched peas date back to 1773 and are still sold today on the HotPotatoTram. We gave the legend Gazza a taste and he loved ’em.”

As a former Newcastle, Tottenham and Everton player and famous midfielder, Gazzas events attract between 800 and 1,500 people. The event showed Gazza talking to the sold out audience about his life as a football player and other interesting stories.

There was an afternoon and evening show with tickets ranging from £60 to £200 with meet and greets available.
Parched peas also known as black peas or dapple peas are cooked purple-podded peas. They are a traditional Lancashire dish usually served with lashings of malt vinegar. The dried peas are soaked overnight and simmered to produce a type of mushy pea.
