Fulwood charity Friends of Conway Park (FOCP) has unveiled its latest major investment in the site.

And the group has also been successful in its search for a new chairperson. Andy Lee is taking over from outgoing chairman Geoff Rand who, as Blog Preston reported in February, is stepping down after an incredibly successful 10 years at the helm of the organisation.

Andy and Geoff were on hand on Saturday, 1 March, to officially open a brand new path within Conway Park, which sits off Conway Drive, Fulwood.

The path, financed entirely from FOCP’s fundraising efforts, runs from west to east across the northern end of the park and makes this area accessible during bad weather for the first time in the lifespan of the park.

It also avoids having to use the wooden steps in the NW corner in order to access the public right of way above Sharoe Brook. The path is accessible for prams buggies and users of mobility equipment.

This £29,000,00 investment provides a much needed addition for all users of the park.

To date, in their 10 year history, FOCP has also invested a further £143,000 in additional paths, the partial refurbishment and upgrade of the children’s play area, additional seating and litter bins, three flower borders and a number of trees at the southern end of the park.

FOCP’s current fundraising campaign is aimed at completing the rebuild of the final section of the play area, thus finishing all of the upgrades highlighted from the original public consultation.

Anyone wishing to donate to the park can do so via its crowdfunding website.

More information is also available on the group’s Facebook page.
