An exhibition featuring a contemporary mix of film, painting, print, installation and sculpture will go on display at The Birley this week.

The group exhibition, titled The Time Between, runs from tomorrow (Friday 7 March), with an opening event taking place from 6pm.

The exhibition will incorporate a range of newly created multidisciplinary works carried out by six Fine Art Masters students – Kirby Corless, Matthew Livesey, Francesca Aikman, Anne Haworth, Caroline Foulks and lan Mathison.

The students, from the University of Central Lancashire, will be testing out ideas for their final, and much larger, MA degree show, which will be at the end of this year.

In The Time Between, they will address a diverse range of themes including complex issues associated with motherhood, the monstrous feminine, transience and the fleeting nature of existence, international conflict and fragility and strength in nature.

Francesca said: “This exhibition showcases a diverse range of artistic expression, highlighting the talents and creativity of our students. Each piece reflects our unique perspectives and innovative approaches to contemporary art.

“It promises to be an inspiring experience for art enthusiasts and the local community alike. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the hard work and dedication of our students.”

The Birley, located in Birley Street near Preston Markets, will be open daily from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 8 to Saturday 15 March, except Sunday.
