Two-way traffic lights on Whittingham Lane between Goosnargh and Broughton are set to be removed by the end of this week, despite confusion about when the roadworks would actually finish.

The work was being carried out by Cadent Gas to replace more than 1,000 metres of gas mains. Signs placed on the road by Cadent said work would last from 6 January, 2025, to 3 March – with frustrated Blog Preston readers contacting us about the continued queues in Whittingham Lane.

However, the Lancashire County Council website stated the roadworks and signals would last from 20 January to 24 March.

Cadent has now confirmed to Blog Preston the signs, which sparked confusion on social media from commuters and Blog Preston readers, were a mistake on its behalf.

Mark Syers, head of investment planning (North West) at Cadent, said: “We apologise for the confusion and incorrect dates on our site signage. Unexpected difficulties accessing the pipe on Whittingham Lane, Goosnargh, required the date to be amended to the times stated on our website.

“Our engineers will remove the sign from the site to avoid any further confusion.

“We are pleased to say that we are expecting to finish this work ahead of schedule and traffic management will be removed from the road by the end of this week.”
