A junction in Cottam which has been left in a dilapidated state for the past three years is set to be fixed this August, according to housing developer Taylor Wimpey.

Local resident Keith Taylor contacted Blog Preston to express his frustration about the junction where Sandy Lane meets Hoyles Lane.

Taylor Wimpey has responsibility for the stretch of road and junction and it is understood that once United Utilities has finished working in the area, the developer will be able to recommence their work to revise the junction.

Keith said: “This main road junction at Sandy Lane and Hoyles Lane at Cottam has been left in this state now for three years with no sign of any improvements.

“The road layout was planned to be improved to facilitate the greater flow of traffic due to the huge increase of housing in the area. This is a hazardous junction due to it being on a blind bend.”

As Cottam has been transformed by new housing development over the past decade or more, it appears responsibility for the junction has fallen between the cracks.

Keith added: “Sandy Lane was originally a quiet back lane before the massive house building programme led to the road being a main feeder road for all the traffic to access the new housing and is now also a bus route.”

A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said: “We will be undertaking the necessary improvement works to the Sandy Lane roundabout in August 2025.

“This is the final step in a series of roadworks that have been taking place in relation to the new developments in the area. This work has been scheduled following works by other developers and utility companies in order to avoid the need to dig up the newly-completed roundabout, and to ensure the best possible surface for road users in the long term.

“We will write to local residents ahead of works starting to inform them of the programme and any closures or diversions.”
