A Preston choir will perform Brahms’ Requiem – 95 years on from its first-ever performance of the composition.

Spokesperson Mick Gardner said: “What goes around, comes around as the saying goes.

“The first performance by Preston Oratorio Society, as we were then known, in December 1930 was Brahms’ Requiem and in a week’s time, we’ll perform it again.

“The concert will be in English this time – apologies to any purists – and will cost a bit more than the fourpence it was to get into the original performance!”

Dan Adams will be musical director, with the performance featuring pianist, Paul Greenhalgh, and soloists, Aimée-Maria Harris (soprano) and Connor Cobb (bass).

Preston Orpheus Choir will present Brahms: An English Requiem on Saturday 5 April 2025 at 7pm at St Michael and All Angels in Egerton Road, Ashton-on-Ribble.

Priced at £12 for adults and £5 for under 18s, tickets are available from the Preston Orpheus Choir website. They can also be bought on the door via cash, card or contactless.
