A couple from Scorton who became the stars of Kirstie and Phil’s Love It or List It on Channel 4 have described it as the ‘perfect’ experience.

Nick Comer and wife Joanne featured on the show’s latest series when they looked to transform their home in Scorton, which they bought 16-years-ago.

Having initially added a landing and a utility room to expand the bungalow, they had not really added much to it since then. However, with two children aged six and eight, the couple decided to plough £85,000 into transforming their home.

At the same time, the show’s presenters Phil Spencer and Kirstie Allsopp tried to tempt them into moving by finding three other suitable properties in the region that were up for sale.

For Nick, who runs amazon retail specialist Rosetta Brands in Nateby, near Garstang, the chance to appear on the show came at exactly the right time in his and Joanne’s lives.

He said: “I was chatting to my sister, Hayley, about fancying a move and she suggested to go on Love It or List It as it’s her favourite show.

“I had never thought about it, but it came at a time when we’d had private equity investment into the business and there was a bit of breathing space.

“With Jo wanting to stay in the house and me wanting to move, the programme really was perfect for us.”

The decision to appear on the show also came at a time when Nick’s dad, Frances, was sadly suffering from a terminal illness which, Nick said, made him realise that ‘life is too short’ not to take risks.

After going through an extensive set of interviews and being accepted for the show, it was on to filming and meeting the show’s famous hosts, Phil Spencer and Kirstie Allsopp.

And it turns that both Phil and Kirstie could not have been nicer.

Nick said: “Both Phil and Kirsty were absolutely fantastic and loved Scorton and what Lancashire had to offer. My sister just melted when she met them.

“The positive reaction on social media has also been amazing. I was quite worried about what the reaction would be, but it has been so pleasing what people have said. I think they’ve realised that we are just normal people and this is real life.”

So, after spending £85,000 on the renovation and also viewing other properties, did the couple decide to ‘list’ their home and sell it, or ‘love it’ and keep it?

“We have decided to sell it,” said Nick. “The premise of the show is that if you are going to sell it in the next two to four years then you are listing it. We love the house, but the time spent out of it while it was being renovated made us appreciate that we wanted more space as the children get older.

“It was the perfect show for us in that moment in time and it was was a wonderful experience.”
