A Preston garden centre is celebrating one of spring’s earliest flowers with a dedicated Primrose Festival.

The event is taking place at Barton Grange Garden Centre until Sunday 2 March to showcase the charm and versatility of the beloved spring bloomers.

A wide array of primrose varieties is on display, as well as a choice of flower-filled containers and baskets.

Visitors are being asked to vote for their favourite primrose to be entered into a draw to win a gardening hamper worth £100.

Plant Area Manager Will Clark said: “Our greenhouse is looking blooming marvellous right now, filled with a stunning selection of the beautiful primula family. We’re proud that they are all grown at our own nursery just down the road.

“As one of the first plants to flower in the spring, and capable of surviving the worst of Britain’s winters, these hardy perennials hold a special place in every gardener’s heart.”

With a distinctive fragrance and range of vibrant colours, primroses are also a good source of nectar for butterflies, bees and moths.
