Police urge witnesses to come forward in investigation into death of man in River Ribble

Police have released a description of a man who was found dead in the River Ribble on Sunday.

A 69-year-old man was found in the water near to the Boulevard section of the river in Avenham Park. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An update from police says the man’s death is being treated as ‘unexplained but not suspicious’.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Sunday 9 February at 1.26pm to reports of the man’s body being found.

A police spokesperson said: “His family have been informed and our thoughts are very much with them at this distressing time.

“As our enquiries continue, we are asking if anyone saw the man in The Boulevard and surrounding area last Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

“He was 6ft tall, with receding hair which was brushed back, and wearing a wax jacket and black trousers. He had a carrier bag with him.”

Anyone who thinks they saw a man matching this description or who has information should contact police on 101 quoting log 0621 of 9 February 2025.
