Police said he had been taken to hospital and his condition is described as ‘very poorly’.

A police spokesperson said: “A man has now been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery and remains in custody.

“This is not being treated as a terror-related incident and we would ask that people do not engage in any unhelpful speculation.”

Police later confirmed to Blog Preston the man arrested was 27 and of no fixed abode.

The B&M store has remained closed since Wednesday lunchtime when the attack took place.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 572 of 26 February 2025.
