Delays are expected until mid-morning as motorists heading to Preston became caught up in an early morning closure of the M6.
A crash near to Junction 31A on the northbound carriageway closed three lanes from shortly before 7am on Monday (3 February).
All northbound routes through Preston have experienced intense congestion as a result with the A6 from Junction 29 through to the Broughton interchange congested with London Road taking the majority of the traffic as motorway drivers looked for alternative routes.

Lancashire Police and National Highways North West said the motorway was fully reopened around 9am on Monday.
Delays on the M6 northbound stretched back to Junction 27 for Wigan and on the M61 northbound back to Junction 6 for Horwich as a result of the crash.
A spokesperson for Preston Police said six vehicles were involved in the crash.
One person has minor injuries as a result of the crash.
