Chorley man braves ice and snow to cover more than 300 miles walking, running and cycling in a month

Over January Andy Lewis from Chorley, who is a former district scout commissioner, completed the 496km challenge to raise funds for Preston Charity.

The annual challenge involves covering 496km of running, cycling or walking everyday throughout January.

Through his fundraising, Andy Lewis, aged 73, raised over £1,200 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation in thanks for their treatment and support to his wife Lisa and good friend. Steve.

The charity is primarily located in Royal Preston Hospital but also has eight cancer units with one in Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.

It aims to bring treatments, clinical research and services to people throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Despite pushing through snow ice and two named storms, Andy said he ended up in A&E from the wounds he experienced from his tremendous achievement.

In response to his fundraising, he said: “It was worth it though to give back to Rosemere, which was my aim.

“I also have to thank my wife Lisa, son George and my friend Steve Clifford for supporting and encouraging me, my friends and neighbours, who gathered to cheer me home at the end of my final run, and everyone who donated.”

Steve Clifford, Andy’s friend, survived bowel cancer. Through his journey he was referred to Rosemere Cancer Centre last year.

Currently, Andy mentioned that he is “well on the road to recovery.”

In addition, Yvonne Stott, community and events fundraiser for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, said: “Congratulations to Andy on completing the 496k challenge.

“It’s a toughie but this year it’s been even harder because January’s weather was so awful with some really treacherous conditions.
