A woman from Bamber Bridge is raising money to be able to pay for lifesaving treatment for her bulldog, Daphne.

Nicole Robinson, 29, set up a GoFundMe page to raise £1,000 for emergency surgery for her four-year-old English Bulldog.

Daphne the bulldog became unwell with a tail pocket infection, which then developed into a superbug infection, something which can be difficult to treat and life threatening if left. It is common in the bulldog breed.

After trying numerous treatments such as antibiotics, creams and medicated wipes, the infection became immune to standard treatment options.

Nicole sought the advice of specialists and vets, such as Vets 4 Pets in Preston Capital, who suggested soft tissue surgery to remove the full tail pocket or euthanasia.

However, after a rough quote of £2,000, which does not include aftercare or testing, Nicole realised she would not be able to afford the surgery at such short notice.

On top of this, she would have to travel to Manchester, as only certain vets do the procedure.

She said: “I’m not going to give up.

“Pets are often overlooked, people think they’re ‘just pets’ but she’s like my family.”

So far, the fundraiser has seen 25 donations, raising just over £600. Nicole says this is thanks to a few celebrity influencers, such as people from Love Island and Married at First Sight, sharing the appeal on their social media accounts.

Nicole added: “I’m really grateful and feeling quite positive now.

“I wasn’t expecting any responses but the donations have shot up in the past few days. Anything will help.”

With the money raised so far Daphne was able to be booked in for her pre-op consultation and a deposit can be place on her surgery.
