Two lanes of the M6 are shut to the north of Preston due to an ‘unsafe tree’.

Emergency services are on the scene between Junction 33 (Garstang) and Junction 34 of the M6.

Lancashire Road Police said they’ve had to close two of three lanes on the northbound side of the motorway.

This is due to ‘unsafe tree which has split at the trunk and could fall on the carriageway at any time due to the high winds.’

Traffic England is reporting delays of more than 20 minutes between Junction 33 northbound and Junction 34 as a result.

Storm Éowyn is continuing to hit Preston and the surrounding areas with gusts of up to 70mph.

An amber weather warning from the Met Office is in place for strong winds, lasting through until 9pm on Friday (24 January).
