St Laurence Church in Chorley has received additional funding to continue providing food and warmth to members of the community.

Receiving the funding from Lancashire County Council, £500 has already been received and is said to support two initiatives that offer food and a space to stay warm to those who need it.

One of the two initiatives includes the Open Table program.

This takes place on Monday nights, providing a free home-cooked meal to the community.

In addition, Taste Café, located inside the church, is run by volunteers and open Tuesday to Friday.

Jill Smith, Project Administrator at St Laurence’s Church, said, “Although the café is run by volunteers, we still need to pay for supplies, heating, and lighting.

“Every bit of funding that we receive really does help.”

In addition, the third round of grant funding is now available to apply for until 19th January.

This is especially for voluntary organisations who are providing a warm space within their communities in Lancashire.

So far, through the grant scheme more than £70,000 has been committed to support Lancashire’s network of warm spaces.

The impact of these programmes has shown to have a huge impact on Sandra, a regular visitor of both the Taste Café and Open Table programmes.

She said: “It’s really hard as I don’t have a lot of family, a lot of them have passed away, so I have support now.

“If it wasn’t here then I’d just stay at home and be on my own.”
