Preston Art Society’s 2025 calendar of events is set to begin with an abstract still life workshop.

Visitors are welcome at the workshop, which will see artist Sue Mills lead the group.

Preston Art Society is made up of artists, from beginners to professionals, who work across a wide variety of media.

They meet on the first and third Wednesday evenings of the month from September until May, at St Margaret’s Parish Centre in Ingol.

The Sue Mills – Abstract in Art event will take place outside this schedule, on Wednesday 15 January.

Sue said: “I will be doing a short talk and demo on how we can use everyday objects to compose small paintings. We will use these as a way of experimenting and trying out new ideas.”

Attendees will need to take two or three everyday items – or photos/drawings of them – to use as inspiration.

Sue added: “For mine I chose a pear, a favourite vase and a plant from the garden.”

Future upcoming events include:

  • 5 February: Anthony Barrow demonstrates how he makes a portrait using charcoal and acrylic wash
  • 19 February: Jill Reidy, well known photographer, talks about her latest work and launches a new pop up project
  • 5 March: Visit from Julia Swarbrick, painter and printmaker
  • 19 March: Well known local artist Norman Long talks about his oil painting technique

The Society also holds a summer sketching programme, and an annual exhibition that is open to all members.
