A new warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office covering Preston and Lancashire.

Temperatures are set to plummet further during Tuesday night into Wednesday as the icy blast to 2025 continues.

A yellow weather warning – the lowest level issued – has been put out from 5pm on Tuesday (7 January) through to 12noon on Wednesday (8 January).

Forecasters say Wednesday morning is due to be the coldest period so far with lows of -3 to -4 between 7am and 9am. The feels-like temperature will be around -7.

A bright and crisp day is expected though on Wednesday following the chance of some icy showers overnight.

The warning states: “Icy stretches expected leading to some impacts to transport.”

Preston saw widespread snowfall during Sunday and the deep freeze has set in since then.

The cold weather is forecast to stay until Monday (13 January) when temperatures rise back towards double figures.
