The Black Horse in Friargate is now on a three-year run of being named as the Central Lancashire Campaign For Real Ale’s (CAMRA) Pub of the Year.
The dedicated team – Dan, the landlord and Beth and Harry, the managers, – were awarded their prize last night.
CAMRA’s Central Lancashire chairman Adrian Smith presented them with a new certificate for 2025, including CAMRA’s new logo, and a shield which sits pride of place at the bar.

They just narrowly missed out, making the final four of CAMRA’s UK-wide pub of the year competition but lost out to The Bailey Head in Oswestry, Shropshire.
Adrian said: “The Black Horse is everything you can want in a pub.
“They have great beer, great staff, great hospitality. It’s an absolutely fabulous achievement.”
He joked CAMRA had never awarded the same pub one three consecutive occasions.
“It will not happen on a fourth occasion – you’re banned from the competition!” he laughed.

Dan thanked the management team at The Black Horse for their ‘marvellous job as always’ and paid thanks to the brewery as well as all the regulars.
“The regulars are over the moon, they’re so happy.
“They feel like it’s their pub too and they’re so proud.
“Thank you for all the support and here’s to the next round.”
