Alvin, aged 5, is a new addition to Ribbleton Rehoming Centre in the Preston & District branch.
Just before Christmas, he made a journey 30 miles north from Cheshire to Lancashire to hopefully increase the chance of adoption.
Although described by Preston’s RSPCA Centre Manager Ashleigh Kay, as a: “gentle giant,” Alvin remains homeless and without a caring companion, despite several appeals made last year.

Rescued from a West Midlands house in May 2022, Alvin was struggling with untreated injuries for which his owner, at the time, had failed to get veterinary treatment.
He was put up for adoption last February after his former owner signed him over for rehoming in court.
Katie Buckley, Animal Care Manager at the Warrington rehoming centre, said: “It was heartbreaking to watch people continually walk past and choose another dog and not him.
“Alvin deserves a home of his own and we hope the start of 2025 will bring him that little bit of luck.”
Named a “large but very polite dog”, the RSPCA said that he would specifically need owners willing to patiently build up his trust.
He also has a high prey drive, which new owners will need to be aware of when walking him.
