Police are advising people avoid Lea Road

A key road in Preston should be avoided due to ongoing flooding, police have warned.

Lea Road is flooded underneath the railway bridge in Lea between Summer Trees Avenue and Nelson Drive this morning (1 January).

A spokesperson for police said: “We want to update you and let you know that we’re experiencing flooding in Lea, Ashton.

“Because of this, we’re advising you to avoid Lea Road from Summer Trees Avenue to Nelson Drive.

A similar flooding incident has been reported in Lostock Hall this morning.

Elsewhere in South Ribble, Victoria Road and London Road have closures in place due to flood water at Walton-le-Dale.

Flood warnings remain in force this morning and a number of New Year’s Day events have been cancelled.
