Emergency electrical works has closed South Meadow Lane in Broadgate.
Residents living nearby say they were left cut off by the sudden closure of the road – with work beginning on Friday (3 January).
A resident, who asked not to be named, told Blog Preston: “It annoys me just the way anyone can start work on a Friday close the thoroughfare, abandon it Friday afternoon for the weekend without so much as a bye your leave.
“Also if they’d tidied up the mounds of earth they could have made it single way with temp lights.”

Electricity North West say a fault on an underground cable meant urgent works were needed.
A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: “Teams are currently carrying out repair work on South Meadow Street due to a fault on an underground electricity cable. For safety reasons, a road closure is in place so work can be carried out on the footpaths and in the road. The closure was approved by the local authorities and all work is expected to be completed tomorrow [Tuesday 7 January].”
The road is expected to re-open either late on Tuesday or by Wednesday [8 January] at the latest.
Lancashire County Council said works had begun on Sunday (5 January) but residents said digging had begun on Friday with the closure already in place. Diversions are in place via Broadgate itself.
The work comes just weeks after long-running road closures along roads in the Broadgate area were lifted as flood defence works were partially completed.
