Preston North End fans are being urged to join a tribute to a man who died during Storm Darragh.

Paul Fiddler was killed when a tree fell onto the van he was driving on the A59 at Hutton on Saturday 7 December.

During PNE’s Boxing Day fixture with Hull there’s a call for a round of applause during the 41st minute.

It will be in memory of Paul, 41, who was living in Freckleton and his funeral, held in the last week, saw more than 1,000 people attend.

Owner of The Tap End in Ashton-on-Ribble and Stags Head at Goosnargh, Martin Sanderson, is behind the applause appeal for Deepdale.

He said: “As many of you will know, Paul tragically lost his life on the 7th of December when a tree blew down onto his van whilst travelling on the A59 at Hutton.

“Paul was a good friend to many of us, and a huge PNE fan travelling the country watching his beloved club.

“Paul, age just 41, was only recently married, and he leaves behind a wife and young step daughter.

“We would like you all to join us in a minutes applause on the 41st minute to celebrate his life, his photo will be shown on the big screen at this time (match events permitting)

“His family, who are also huge North End fans will be in attendance, it would be a lovely gesture for them too.

“I know many of you knew Paul very well, so please share this message far and wide.”
