Residents living along the railway line through Ashton-on-Ribble and Cottam are being told to prepare themselves for ‘loud banging noises’.
Network Rail has warned of works taking place overnight on Saturday 14 December.
The work from Steeple View in Ashton up to the Cottam Sports Arena is due to be ‘noisy night-time vegetation maintenance work’.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “We will be completing vegetation management work in the area to stop branches causing damage to the overhead line, striking trains, obscuring signals and leaf fall causing poor adhesion for trains.
“This will help keep train services safe and reliable for passengers and train drivers while also reducing risks to local residents.”
Chainsaws and woodchippers are to be used during the works as well as lighting.
The work is due to take place from just before 12midnight on Saturday 14 December through to 8am on Sunday 15 December.
