A crowdfunded project aiming to raise money to deliver free and inclusive gym classes to women in the community has hit its target.

A group from Preston were spurred on by the ‘total lack of sporting facilities for women’ in Kingsfold, Penwortham.

They set to raise just under £33,000 to train 10 new fitness champions who will deliver the sessions, helping women in marginalised communities become fitness instructors.

Kay Johnson MBE and The Larder, a Preston-based social enterprise committed to food fairness and wellbeing, which was founded by Kay, partnered with Tribe Fitness to launch the Kingsfold Fitness Champions initiative.

Zoe Hirst from The Larder said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have reached our crowdfunding target so that we can start recruiting women who want to train as Fitness Champions!”
