A 66-year-old church could soon be torn down and rebuilt to allow more people to attend.
Leaders at Bamber Bridge Pentecostal Church have submitted a planning application seeking permission to rebuild the place of worship to make it more accessible and enable bigger attendance in the shared space.
If approved, the new building will be erected on the footprint of the existing one and be designed with a multi-use space on the ground floor and church services on the first floor with lift access provided.

Based on Chorley Road, Walton-le-Dale, the church is also used as a polling station and it is argued the new building would also improve access for this use.
The application states: “Bamber Bridge Pentecostal Church has been holding services since 1958 on Chorley Road. It is a place where people meet to join together in worship of God. The Church meets several times throughout the week, with services available. Providing community worship and support for all generations.
“The current church building limits our ability to serve the community and congregation. Space and practicality makes it difficult to hold the events we carry out each year and therefore the church are looking to enlarge their current premises.
“It is extremely difficult to extend the current building to meet the needs of the church. The proposed application looks to address this as it makes much better use of the site footprint as a whole as well as the internal space that a new build would provide. This enables the church to serve our congregation and community in a much more effective way.”
