The son of the late Winedown Preston owner Dougie Lowe paid tribute as it retained its bar of the year award.

Preston’s High Street Heroes Awards, voted for by the public, also included a new award recognising the impact Dougie Lowe made on the city.

Will Lowe, from Winedown, said: “Dad would have loved tonight, and we would be so proud of what the business has done and Preston as a whole. He loved this city.

“It’s been an emotional few months and to come out with an award is great, I am over the moon for the city to pull together like it has for one of its own.”

Dougie died in August after the car he was in was hit by a falling tree during a storm. There was an outpouring of tributes for the work he had done to help the city’s hospitality scene over the years.
