A new book delving into the history and heritage of pubs in Chorley has been published.

It follows the successful launch of’ Discovering Lancashire Pubs (Leyland Hundred West)’ this time last year.

This new page turner is a detailed study of over 125 pubs, past and present in Chorley and the immediate outlying areas.

The book retails at £9.50 and is a great stocking filler for anyone interested in the history of the pubs in this area, according to the publisher.

The book focuses on the past and present of pubs, dating from the 1700s to the present day in the town centre and outlying areas of Astley Village and Ackhurst, Botany Bay and Duxbury, with an informative introduction on the history of the public house, legislative and social development and the breweries that sprung up supporting the pubs in the area.

The author, David Bretherton, was born and raised in Croston and grew up knowing many of the pubs covered in the book.

He now lives in Oxfordshire and travelled frequently to Lancashire to carry out research for the book.
