Rain and flood warnings for Preston will now be in place until midnight tonight, according to the latest update from the Met Office.
Preston, and much of the UK, had been under a yellow weather warning for rain due to expire at midday today (16 October).
The warning spoke of potential damage to businesses, flooding on roads and power cuts.
That warning has now essentially been cut into two separate warnings by the Met Office, which intersect exactly at Preston, and extended for the rest of the day. It also now says there is a possibility of isolated thunderstorms.
The southernmost warning, covering South Ribble, Chorley, Liverpool and Manchester, is due to be lifted at 9pm.
The northernmost warning, covering Preston, Longridge, Garstang and further north towards Lancaster, lifts at midnight.
The contents of the now-two separate warnings are the same.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Areas of rain, heavy in places, are likely to push north across the warning area, with a few places perhaps getting a longer spell of quite intense rainfall.
“If and where this happens, we could see 50-80 mm of rain falling within around 6 hours, although a lot of places will probably see closer to 20 mm. Isolated thunderstorms are possible.”
