A new play by Kirkham-born writer Sarah Green is set to debut at Lancashire Fringe Festival.

Green’s latest work, Jo and Dave Have Moved, is a one-act, 60-minute play commissioned specifically for the festival. 

With a Masters in Script Writing from UCLan, Sarah’s background spans theatre and voice over work, having previously lent her voice to The Accident Line and the iconic computer game Theme Hospital. After attending drama school in Birmingham and working in London, she returned to Lancashire, where she plans to stay.

This will be Sarah’s second play showcased at the festival, with her taking on the role of Jo. She’ll be joined by Martin Travers as Dave and Diarmaid McDonagh Green, who plays two roles.

“I’m looking forward to being part of the Lancashire Fringe Festival once again,” Sarah told Blog Preston.

“The play is a ghost story on the surface, but it’s really about change, loss and acceptance. It’s quite a dark subject matter but most of the grim stuff is left to the imagination.

“My plays are mostly about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, so they have wide appeal.”

In addition to her writing work, Sarah balances her time teaching voice and acting part-time at a university, doing voice over work and live performances, writing poetry, and reading Tarot. She recently completed a one-man play titled Souled, a contemporary piece that explores themes of sacrifice and ambition.

As Lancashire Fringe Festival draws to a close next Wednesday (9 October), Sarah encourages locals to seize the opportunity to experience the event.

“All of the shows are completely free and there is a huge variety of live performance work to choose from. This is a great opportunity for people in the area to see some original homegrown work from professional writers and performers.”
