A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident that left a woman in her 30s fighting for her life.

The incident happened just before 8pm on Sunday (September 29) and saw a woman struck by a car on Station Road in Bamber Bridge, close to the junctions with Longbrook Avenue and Fourfields.

The woman, in her 30s from Bamber Bridge, was on the pedestrian crossing when she was hit. She remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Police confirmed yesterday that they had arrested two boys, 16 and 17 from Bamber Bridge, in connection with the incident. They have now confirmed the third arrested of a 53-year-old man. All three are in custody.

Police are continuing to ask for information relating to the incident as they attempt to piece together what has happened.

They ask for any dashcam, CCTV or other footage from Station Road between 7.40pm and 7.55pm on Sunday. They also want to speak with anyone who saw the car – a dark grey Toyota Prius – which did not stop at the scene and they are still searching for.

It has the registration FY62 MXC.

Detective Chief Inspector Jill Riley, of the Force Major Investigation Team at Lancashire Constabulary, said: “A woman remains very poorly in hospital as a result of this collision, and I would ask anyone who has any footage which could assist or who has any information about the car or who may have been driving, to get in touch with us

“I have a team of officers and staff making enquiries to try and establish exactly what has happened and to find those responsible.”

Anyone with information can get in touch by calling police on 101 and quoting log 1163 of September 29. You can also email the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on SCIU@lancashire.police.uk
