Transport Secretary condemns ‘appalling act of violence’ at Preston Railway Station

The Government’s transport secretary has condemned an ‘appalling act of violence’ after a police officer and railway worker were assaulted in Preston.

A man in his 50s was arrested and a section of Preston Railway Station closed in an incident on Saturday night (7 September) that Blog Preston understands saw a British Transport Police officer attacked with a knife.

A member of staff was also attacked and injured.

The officer’s condition was not life-threatening while the rail worker suffered minor injuries.

Louise Haigh, transport secretary, said: “This is an appalling act of violence and the perpetrator must face the full force of the law.

“My thoughts are with the police officer and rail worker who were attacked while doing their jobs.

“Everyone should be safe on our trains and at our stations.”
