Tributes have been paid to a ‘first-class footballer’ who died following a crash in Chain Caul Way during Tuesday evening.

Adam Bodi, 16, was the back-seat passenger when an Audi A3 Sport hit a tree on the road near the Docks.

He died during Wednesday in hospital from his injuries.

Bodi had recently left Penwortham Priory Academy with his GCSEs.

Principal Matt Eastham said: “Unfortunately and with great sadness, we were informed yesterday that our former pupil, Adam Bodi, who had just left Priory this year and received his GCSEs in the summer, passed away following an accident.

“We are of course, extremely upset to hear this news and the school sends its heartfelt condolences to all of Adam’s family and friends.

“Adam was an amazing pupil, of whom we have nothing but fantastic memories. He was popular, bright, confident and had a fantastic sense of humour alongside being a first-class footballer, who had been part of our football team here at Priory for 5 years.

“We know that the rest of his year group will be equally upset at losing one of their own.

“Adam was a fantastic young man, and he, his family and friends are very much in our thoughts and prayers.”

An 18-year-old man, named as Umar Mahmood, and a star of Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams and a former Priory pupil, was the driver of the vehicle.

A further statement from Penwortham Priory also paid tribute to him.

Broadgate Youth Development Scheme also paid tribute to Umar and Adam as both lived in Broadgate.

In a statement the volunteer committee of BYDS said: “Hafiz Umar and Adam were from among our very first members of BYDS.

“They played an active part in the youth club from its early days up until most recently where they participated in the annual boys residential trip.

“Hafiz Umar and Adam touched the lives of many within BYDS and the wider community with their outstanding personalities and character. With heavy hearts we miss their presence.

“They were known for their great sense of humour, confidence and authenticity which rubbed off on our other members.

“Hafiz Umar was an aspiring cricketer and Adam was a first-class footballer, both always willing to get stuck in. Their talents and participation will surely be missed.”

Preston Police continue to appeal for witnesses and information about the crash.

Sergeant Paul McCurrie, of Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit, said: “This was a collision with tragic circumstances.

“Two young people have died, and I wish to extend my sympathy to their families, loved ones and friends.

“We are investigating how the collision happened, and we continue to ask for anyone who witnessed it to contact us.”

Anyone with information can contact 101, quoting log 1538 of 10th September 2024, or email SCIU@lancashire.police.uk.
