A singing group for mothers has launched in Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston.

Singing Mamas, a national non-profit organisation set up to improve women’s well-being through singing, has been launched in the city.

The new group has been set up by Chrissie Jones, a community musician and mum from Preston.

Chrissie says she is passionate about making singing accessible, helping people find their voice and experiencing the health benefits it brings.

Singing is said to boost mood and introduce more oxygen into the blood which leads to better circulation.

She said: “There are no auditions, no sheet music and no singing experience needed. It’s for shy singers, sing it only in the shower singers, confident singers and everything in between.

“It’s about singing for fun, positive mental health and making connections.”

The group in Preston learn a mixture of songs by ear and sing line by line then add in harmonies – Chrissie believes that singing is for everyone.

After an hour of singing the local mums then ‘enjoy a brew’ or fresh coffee with tasty homemade cakes and bakes.

Chrissie’s group, which is open to everyone, even with and without little ones, meets every Tuesday, 10am to 11.30am at St Andrew’s Church Hall in Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston.

Those interested are able to go along for a free taster session and can contact Chrissie at singingmamaspreston@gmail.com or find out more through the Singing Mamas Facebook page.

In addition to running Singing Mamas, Chrissie also hosts the Heartbeat Community Choir which is always welcoming new members and is available for one-off workshops, business wellbeing days and private lessons.
