A new RSPCA charity shop opened in the city on Monday (23 September).
The charity has moved its Penwortham shop to a bigger and more central location on Liverpool Road.
The team had a grand opening on Monday 23 September, with Penwortham’s Mayor, David Shaw, in attendance to cut the ribbon and declare it officially open. Tanya, the branch admin said the day was a ‘roaring success’.
The shop will be dog friendly – one of the first canine visitors was a Great Dane called Doro. At the opening there were dogs who are up for adoption at the RSPCA local animal centre, including Daisy the Rottweiler.

Though pleased to have a ‘new and brilliant’ shop, the move came as a surprise to the team.
A spokesperson for RSPCA in Preston said: “Our animal centre really relies on the income from the shop and when the landlord rang the branch manager on blue Monday in January to say he wasn’t going to renew our lease in September we were devastated.
“We’ve been good tenants for five years in that little shop next to Subway. We were originally told it was because he was selling it but it transpired that he is renting it to the rival charity shop next door.”
However, after ‘searching tirelessly’ the team were ready to open the new shop on Monday. They are now located at 50B Liverpool Road opposite Cats Protection charity shop.
They are encouraging people to visit the new shop, you can find out more here.
