Morrisons at Preston Docks to take part in charity challenge this month

Morrisons at Preston Docks, in Ashton-on-Ribble, is taking part in a charity challenge throughout September, raising money for Derian House and Together for Short Lives.

The team is aiming to raise £1,000 and Erphelia Chambers, the community champion at the Preston Store, is planning to walk 54km around the Docks throughout the month.

The charity challenge is named ‘The 54 Challenge,’ representing the number of children’s hospices across the UK which Together for Short Lives supports.

Morrisons will have QR codes which people can scan in-store to donate. They also have tickets for people to buy so they can be entered into a raffle prize draw and a book stand which helps raise funds.

On Monday 23 September, the team will receive the Challenge Cup, which will have travelled around other stores in the region which are also taking part.

Danny the Derian mascot will also be in Preston to help with fundraising.

So far, nationwide, around £62,200 has been raised across Morrisons stores. The company plan to raise £540,000 in total, with £50 going towards the cost of new equipment for a calming, multi-sensory room.

Erphelia said: “Hospices just like Derian House are a lifeline to families with a seriously ill child. Families just like Alyssa’s.

“Alyssa is a beautiful, happy girl who lives with her mum, Lynette, dad, Nicolas, and brother, Ethan. At just five days old, a seizure caused by a rare gene mutation led to severe developmental delays and epilepsy.

“As a result, Alyssa uses a wheelchair, is non-verbal and is tube-fed. Alyssa and her family use their local children’s hospice regularly for respite sessions – so that they are able to have a break from the demands of having a seriously ill child.

“To support us in continuing to help families just like Alyssa’s, head into store and celebrate the 54 Challenge with us throughout September.”
