Preston’s city centre was lit up during Saturday evening by a torchlight procession and fireworks display.

Community groups, dancers and more joined the hundreds of people making their way from Moor Park to the Flag Market.

The parade, which took around two hours to make its way down Deepdale Road and then up Church Street, saw giant walking lampposts, raving dancers, Elvis driving a car and plenty more sights.

City centre pubgoers joined the crowds as children were high-fived by performers and Preston broadcasting legend John Gillmore announced the groups taking part as they entered the Flag Market and Lancaster Road area outside the Guild Hall.

The procession marked the end of the first day of the Encounter Festival which sees different arts and culture events and performances run at venues across the city.

Paul Yates from the Preston Photographic Society snapped the procession below.
