Encounter torchlight procession road closures confirmed between Moor Park and Preston city centre

Preston city centre is set to light up during Saturday evening for the now annual torchlight procession as part of the Encounter festival.

Followed by a firework display in the city centre the procession makes its way from Moor Park finish by the Flag Market.

The procession means there are a number of road closures in place during Saturday (21 September) as a result.

Moor Park sees Moor Park Avenue closed from 12noon until 10pm on the Saturday.

A signed diversion route via Sir Tom Finney Way, Blackpool Road, Garstang Road is available until 6pm – after 6pm the diversion route is removed due to the procession.

A number of other road closures are in place between Moor Park and the city centre between 6pm to 10pm on Saturday.

Full length road closures: Deepdale Road, Church Street, Earl Street, Market Street, Cheapside

Partial road closures:
Sir Tom Finney Way (from junction with Deepdale Road to junction with Blackpool Road)
Ribbleton lane (from junction with Deepdale Road to junction with Ring Way)
Ring Way (at the junction with Church Street)
Birley Street (from junction with Church Street to junction with Jacson Street)
Lancaster Road (from junction with Church Street to junction with Ring Way)
Fishergate (from junction with Cheapside to junction with Church Street)

Diversion routes are in place going along Ribbleton Lane, Ribbleton Avenue, Blackpool Road, Garstang Road, North Road and Ring Way (and vice versa)

And from New Hall Lane, Blackpool Road, Garstang Road, North Road and Ring Way (and vice versa).

Preston City Council is also suspending one-way traffic rules on the following roads between 6pm and 10pm across Preston City Centre: St Stephen’s Road, Carrol Street, Church Row, Derby Street, Hammond’s Row, Manchester Road, Avenham Street, Glover’s Court, Crooked Lane and Old Vicarage.

The torchlight procession will start around 7pm on Moor Park and reach the Flag Market by around 9pm when the fireworks display takes place.
